ISCC – International Sustainability & Carbon Certification System

ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) is a globally recognized certification system designed to ensure sustainability, traceability, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions across supply chains. ISCC provides a structured framework for verifying that raw materials and products—biofuels, biomass, waste & residues, food, feed, chemicals, plastics, and renewable materials—are produced responsibly, ethically, and in compliance with international sustainability requirements. ISCC certification applies to all types of organizations across global supply chains, including agriculture, plantations, traders, biofuel producers, chemical plants, refineries, logistics operators, manufacturers, and brand owners.

ISCC consists of three main systems:

ISCC EU – For EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) compliance
ISCC PLUS – For global markets beyond the EU
ISCC CORSIA – For aviation fuel sustainability under ICAO’s CORSIA scheme

ISCC EU – EU Renewable Energy Compliance System

ISCC EU is a certification system recognized by the European Union (EU) for demonstrating compliance with the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II).
It ensures that biomass, biofuels, and bioenergy products delivered to EU markets meet strict sustainability, traceability, and GHG reduction criteria.

Key Principles of ISCC EU

Sustainability & Land-Use Criteria

Ensures raw materials are sourced from non-deforested land, protected ecosystems, and areas with legal land rights.
Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Reductions

Requires organizations to calculate and demonstrate GHG savings based on the EU’s mandated emission thresholds.
Traceability Across Supply Chain

Implements mass balance systems to ensure transparent tracking of sustainable materials from origin to final product.
